The Monmouth Daily Review Atlas 26/5 1942: "Mrs. Omie Wise Died
Last Night At Home Here. Mrs. Hilma Wise, wife of Omie R. Wise,
passed away at 7:30 o'clock last evening at the family home, 515
East Eleventh Av enue, after having been ill for over a year.
Hilma Matson Wise was the daughter of the late John and Bessie
(Nelson) Matson, and was born here August 18, 1887. In 1914 she
was married at Cambridge, Ill. to Omie R. Wise, who survives with
two daughters, Marjorie at home, and Mrs.Edit h Schlaf of Wyoming,
Ill. She also leaves one granddaughter, Katherine Lucille Schlaf,
two sisters, Miss Olga L. Matson , Monmouth, and Mrs. Edit
Bengtson, Chicago, and three brothers, Hilding F., Nels, A. and
Oscar S. Matson, all of Mon mouth. There are also several
nieces.Early in life Mrs. Wise united with the Lutheran church.
After her marriage she tra nsferred her membership to the First
Christian church and had been an active andfaithful worker in the
Calendar society , The Woman's Missionary society and the Loyal
Berean class. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star
and of the auxillary to the Low Twelve club. S he will be greatly
missed by a wide circle of friends.Funeral services are to beheld
at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoo n at the First Chrsitian church
in charge of the pastor, the Rev. F. W. Leonard. Interment will be
made in Monmouth ceme tery. Friends may call at the Sloan-Berner
Funeral Hom e this evening and tomorrow evening." Thomas E.
Bengtson berättar:"She was buried on 27 May 1942 in Monmouth,
Warren, Illinois.15 Funeral services were held a t First Christian
Church in Monmouth. Rev. F.W. Leonard officiated. Preceding the
public service was a prayer service a t the Sloan-Berner Funeral
Ho me conducted by Rev. C. O. Bengtson. An Eastern Star burial
service was also held at the church. Hilma was buried Monmou th
Cemetery, section 15, Glendale section 4. For a time, Hilma worked
as a salesaldy at Allen department store."
